For this contest, entrants don’t have to be pros or use high-tech equipment; submissions can be taken on camera phones. The judges can spot an inspired picture no matter how it’s taken – even if you draw a quick sketch of your ideas, or write them on a piece of paper.
Winners will feature in a national exhibition. The Fresh Perspectives competition was inspired by company founder William Grant, an innovator who created the first ever blended Scotch whisky, therefore, there are loads of exciting prizes to be won, including a luxury weekend trip to the Scottish Highlands where you’ll get to visit the famous Whisky Grant’s distillery and sample their delicious range of blends. Runners up won’t be left empty handed, but with a year’s supply of Grant’s whisky.
To enter the contest just email your photo and contact details or post them to: Fresh Perspectives Comp, touch pr, 229 The Broadway, London, SW19 1SD.

I always hear the question: how should I retouch portraits? and most of the time it is refeard to the exact process of using the clone tool, the healing brush, the smudge tool and warming plus enlighten of the skin tones. But, behind the technique its self, I almost never hear someone asking: when should I apply changes?
The question is a bit tricky because must of the digital fellows forget that NATURAL is an important quality of a speak-less portrait.
Take a look at the pictures in the link below. Go with the mouse over them and notice how the mouth and eyes are considerably “photoshoped” – it’s like there are two different persons.
digitalphotoshopretouching
I believe it’s OK to get rid of spots, dirty teeth, eye wrinkles, enlighten the skin (and this is the most difficult task), but I’m not OK with the modification of a persons genetically forms. We are not perfect, are we?

The dates for the 2008 Lumen Dei Tour and Workshop have just been announced. In about one year from now – from September 15 to 27, 2008 – seven to eight participants will travel with David duChemin and Matt Brandon to Kashmir in Northern India (the trip to this a place known as Paradise on Earth is going to cost a large amount of money – USD 3200.00 complete).
They will be shooting in the chaotic streets of Old Delhi, living on a houseboat on Lake Dal in Srinagar, photographing floating vegetable markets and the Venice-like back waterways from a classic Shikara, trekking in the Himalaya (with most of your gear on ponies) and meeting and photographing the nomadic Gujjar shepherd people.
Theoretical and technical teaching, one on one time with instructors, image critiques will contribute on the quality of the resulting picture gallery.
If you are interested in applying, read more here.
