Sony has released a new firmware update, version 3, for the 12 megapixel Sony A700 DSLR camera. Version 3 provides the following benefits:

Benefits over firmware version 2:
Resolves an issue where the Access Lamp remains lit and the camera stops responding when several pictures are taken in rapid succession.
Resolves an issue where powering the camera off while in “MR” mode may cause some registered settings to carry over to other shooting modes.

Panasonic DMC-L10 DSLR camera has a firmware version 1.1 available with the following improvements:

Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd v 1.01 Firmware Update

Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd digital compact camera will be upgraded to firmware version 1.01 which incorporates the following improvements:

Leica M8 v1.110 Firmware Update

Canon version 1.0.5, for the Canon EOS 40D digital SLR camera, offers the following improvements and fixes:
1. When playing back images just after recovering from Auto Power Off, the display now shows the last image played back.
2. During remote shooting, images are now displayed on the camera’s LCD monitor right after they are taken.
3. Corrects a warning message in Korean that appears when updating the firmware.
4. Corrects errors in the Spanish menu screens.
5. Corrects a phenomenon that prevented printing with some print systems.
6. Corrects a rare phenomenon in which file numbers or image numbers were sometimes skipped.

Olympus E-System DSLR cameras benefit from a new firmware update also. Users of the E-1 through E-510 can all have better focusing accuracy when using the EC-20 teleconverter, while with the E-510 they receive an extra bonus in the form of improved Image Stabilization at slower shutter speeds. As usual the firmware is download-able via your Olympus software – Master, View or Studio depending on your model.

For FujiFilm cameras, since most DSLR cameras today now only offer RAW as an option, the IS Pro offers an optional firmware upgrade that’s now available. The new software supports camera TIFF file formats in three resolutions. (RAW mode is not available during TIFF mode capture.)

Pentax K10D firmware 1.30
Following the lead set by its recently announced K100D Super, the release adds support for SDM (Supersonic Drive Motor) lenses with built-in motors. This update also incorporates previous fixes from releases 1.10 through 1.20.

Sigma Releases SD14 Camera Firmware Update
The recent update corrects a problem when the DSLR freezes and displays an Error message, in addition to video output display. The firmware also now shows the correct number of shots left on a CF card’s memory. Finally, with the updated software, Intel-based Mac OS 10.4.9 operating systems now recognize the camera as Removable Disk on the computer desktop.

Canon Updates Utility and Digital Photo Professional Firmware
The latest edition adds an Auto Power Off mode during Remote Live View and correct Click White Balance when using the 1D Mark III. Other improvements include Picture Style settings (contrast, color tone, color depth, and sharpness settings) and faster connection with the WFT-E2 Wireless File Transmitter.
Canon also updated Digital Photo Professional, improving its RAW editing and conversion characteristics on images shot with EOS digital cameras. Version 3.0.2 promises improved image display quality and correct Picture Style setting values.

Leica Announces Firmware Update for Digital Modul R
The latest firmware improves color rendering on the camera’s display and exposure adjustment. SD cards with FAT 32 systems are now compatible with the Digital Modul R, and image reproduction and functional features are expected to show improvement.

Nikon Announces Updates for Coolpix P1, P2, and S6
The update for the P1 and P2 models allows the Nikon Wireless Camera Setup Utility v.2.1 to connect wirelessly to the 32-bit version of the Windows Vista operating system. The S6 can wirelessly connect with Windows Vista and Intel-based Macintosh systems. Those using a PowerPC Mac or Windows XP will not need to download the firmware.

EOS-1D Mark III firmware improves the look of images when played on the LCD monitor; fixes a problem in the operation of the dials; reduces the tendency to autofocus on the background when using AI Servo AF in certain conditions; corrects errors in the Italian and Simplified Chinese menus; fixes a rare phenomenon where the camera will not start after the battery is inserted.

Olympus Updates E-510 and E-410 Firmware
The updates for both cameras improve writing reliability to high-speed CompactFlash cards, according to the company website. An additional update for the E-410 improves white balance previews in Live-View mode and corrects a bug that reset file names after deleting photos.

Leica Announces Firmware Update for M8 Camera
Version 1.107 includes improved processing speed and image signal processing, which results in better image quality and high ISO processing.
The update’s internal modifications have been improved to provide a safer production process, according to Leica.

Sigma Releases SD14 Firmware 1.03

Casio Updates Z60 Firmware 1.01
Casio this month released firmware update version 1.01 for the EX-Z60 point-and-shoot model. The update adds support for 8GB SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) memory cards or higher, which allow users to store more images. Download Firmware.

Flickrvision Launches with Instant Photo Mapping
Following the photo sharing trend, a new real-time photo mapping website called flickrvision displays thumbnail previews (with the photographer’s name, location, and how long ago the photo was uploaded) of photos as users upload them to the photo-sharing website Flickr. This is an important release I think, since Flickr became very fast the most used photo sharing website.

Panasonic Announces New MOS Sensor
The new MOS image sensor, could potentially be used in automotive and security cameras because is resistant to weather, heat, and ultra-violet damage. This sensor changes out traditional dyed RGB color filters with photonic color filters, has a low power consumption and provides high image quality (look at this as a combination of the CMOS with CCD advantages).

Canon Launches Powershot S5 IS
Announced at the beginning of the month, this Digital Camera from Canon follows up the old S3 IS (an SLR-like design series with high zoom – 12x optical). The new S5 IS is updated from 6 megapixels to 8. The camera also upgrades from a 2-inch LCD screen to a 2.5-inch monitor. The updated screen is a Vari-Angle LCD that flips out and has brightness adjustments. It features Digic III processor (with Face Detection), new hand grip, new hot-shoe and new Auto ISO Shift.

DXG 711 Camera Announced
At the end of May, the 7-megapixel DXG-711 made an entrance to the world with a retail price of $149.99. The camera comes with audio voice memo and video capabilities, 15 scene modes and a max sensitivity of ISO 400.

New Forensic Filter Kit Available from FujiFilm
The kit contains the most common yet hard to find set of filters that most forensic specialists use during investigations. These filters are often used as barrier filters during UV fluorescing techniques. The filters are high quality glass and are sized for 67mm filter threaded lenses.
