Fujifilm

The new Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd reaches a new record in the matter of ultra zoom: not less than 18x optical zoom (and no, it’s not a dSLR). This 8MP camera also features a new anti-blur Dual Image Stabilization system but has a maximum of 1600 ISO at full resolution (higher ISO would have been useless anyway). The face detection includes a new Automatic Red Eye Removal feature. The rest is the same as on it’s predecessor: the FinePix S6000fd. Estimated price: $399.95

FinePix S5800 is also a 8MP camera with a SLR-like design, featuring 2.5-inch LCD screen and 10x optical zoom lens like previous models from the S-series. The S5800 includes a number of features for improved low light shooting (ISO 1600 and Intelligent Flash feature that automatically adjusts sensitivity and flash power for improved photos taken with flash) and image stabilization (PS mode). It is equipped with Super Macro mode that focuses as close as 0.4 inches from a subject and the camera has 12 other scene modes.

FinePix F480 is an entry-level point an shoot (a compact camera for family use unlike the above more robust and complicated ultra zoom). This 8.2MP camera follows the F470 and F650, which are no longer being manufactured. The 4x optical zoom lens system offers wider shooting in a 28-112mm (35mm equivalent) zoom, expanded from the 35-105mm focal range on the F470. The LCD is large enough with 2.7-inch, and the basic features are: 13 scene modes and a Picture Stabilization mode. Estimated price: $179.95

The FinePix F50fd includes Fuji’s Face Detection 2.0 (improved for side profile shots and extreme angles), new dual image stabilization (with CCD-shift technology – mechanical), expanded thumbnail view (new GUI Micro Thumbnail function that displays a 100-image index on the monitor, allowing for users to scan through photos faster), a bigger 2.7-inch LCD, and automatic red-eye correction. It’s a point and shoot compact of 12MP equipped with IrSimple technology that allows users to wirelessly transmit photos from the camera to other IR-enabled devices. Estimated price: $299.95

FinePix Z100fd is a fancy, stylish camera (Shell Pink, Satin Silver, Cappuccino Brown, and Tuxedo Black design) with 8MP, CCD-shift image stabilization, face detection, a new Automatic Red Eye Removal function, 5x optical zoom, 2,7 inch LCD plus Fuji’s IrSimple technology that allows users to wirelessly send photos to other infrared-enabled devices. The camera also has a maximum sensitivity up to 1600 at full resolution for low-light shooting without a flash. Micro Thumbnail view displays a 100-shot index to allow users to quickly scan through large volumes of photos on the LCD screen.

The Fujifilm FinePix F20 upgrades the award-winning FinePix F10. FinePix F20 is a compact digital camera with a short shutter lag time and a bright LCD with Anti-Glare Coating and Low Light Viewability Gain-up Brightness Mode, easy-to-use Image Stabilization and affordable for the ones who don’t want to compromise on quality (good close-up and macro shots that are sharply-focused, bright and clear, very low noise compared to other camera, but still problems with red eye however). All the key buttons can be found on the back and top of the camera. Also, there’s a dedicated anti-shake button to avoid blurred images. Fujifilm‘s Super CCD HR image sensor is the main reason of the sharpness the camera is able to produce. Also comes with a Low Light AF Focusing Assist Lamp to help focusing in low-light. With the 3:2 aspect ratio, you can take photos that will fit on 6 x 4″ paper without the need for trimming. PictBridge, USB High-Speed and TV-out (NTSC / PAL selectable) are definitely present, and FinePix Viewer, Image Mixer as software.

The FujiFilm FinePix F11 Zoom looks and feels identical to F10. There F11 is more or less a premium version of the F10 and offers a few improvements: resolution of the LCD monitor has increased to 153,000 pixels (F10:115,000 pixels) and an improved macro mode performance that makes it possible to take crisp, clear shots of subjects as close as 5cm (F10:7cm). It also now includes A (aperture priority AE) and S (shutter priority AE) modes, and the 256-zones metering enables more precise AE for a variety of a scene. Compared to F10, it appears to be faster. The most important thing remains: with the basic functions of the FinePix F10, including Fujifilm’s innovative Real Photo Technology (produces natural results without having to use the in built flash) and Super CCD sensor, the new Fuji FinePix F11 incorporates manual shooting functions, such as aperture and shutter priority settings.

The FinePix F10 has a metal body and a design which makes it not very slim but quite compact. The controls are well placed and it is easy to use. Other features: Calendar view, Voice memos, DPOF, Autofocus Illuminator, PictBridge and USB connectivity. As for the image quality, this digital camera provides good colors and sharpness, good white balance and no barrel distortion and amazing little noise at high ISO. The movie mode performs very well too. However, it lacks the Aperture and Shutter Priority modes as well as manual controls. This is quite sad for a camera with such a great performance of the picture quality. The battery consumption is low, so this is another reason to choose it as your point-and-shoot camera. No image stabilisation and no viewfinder.

FinePix A700 is the most advanced model in Fujifilm’s A-Series. This point-and-shoot digital camera has a Super CCD sensor, has a higher resolution, but not many features and flexibility: it’s fully automatic. The movie mode is also very basic and slow. The features included in this model are: DPOF support, Audio recording (mono), auto power save, Date/time stamp, USB connectivity, and comes in a package with FinePix Viewer, Drivers & Utilities. For the price, the photo quality is good, with natural colors, but night mode is not really effective, also no stabilization mode. Conclusion: for someone who only wants a cheap point-and-shoot, Fuji Finepix A700 could be a good choice.

“The FinePix A600 Zoom is for the person who does not want complexity to get in the way of quality. It spares you the excess of controls and dials that cover many other cameras, and provides automatic settings that rely on the camera’s know-how to get the shot. As a result, you have a camera that cuts your bad shots to an absolute minimum.” Even if I find this statement from FujiFilm true, I believe the camera could have provided more scene modes for its unexperienced users. Otherwise, the compact digital FinePix A600 comes with Super CCD sensor (giving crisp, colourful and clear photos), a solid build easy to hold, PictBridge, video output for TV monitor (NTSC/PAL) and USB 2.0 connectivity.

The FinePix A500 point and shoot camera incorporates Fujifilm‘s innovative Super CCD sensor, direct print, date/time stamp, DPOF support, PictBridge support, NTSC/PAL Video out, resizing an image. Many people are disappointed because on sale it does not include a memory card. The controls on the camera have been designed for simple, one-handed operation and it does have an optical viewfinder (Field Coverage: 75%). As far as I see, the movie mode is poor, limited and with no sound. For a 5MP camera, it only provides 4 scene modes and I find that quite strange at least: look at some Canon, at the same resolution it comes with much more. These limitations may become frustrating and you will want to upgrade.

fujifilm finepix e550Good for point-and-shoot users, this camera also provides a full manual exposure mode in it’s small, compact, and light weight metal/plastic body. A manual focus option lets you adjust the focus yourself, but the E550 provides no numeric distance scale, so the only way you can determine focus is by watching the LCD screen.

Another tricky thing is the fact that it focuses hard in low light, a problem that many compact cameras have. Yes, fuji comes with optical viewfinder, but shows only about 78-84% of the final frame area. To reach up to ISO 800, the camera smartly brings the resolution down to 3 megapixels, reducing the image noise in the resulting pictures.
The Red-Eye Reduction mode has not reached the level of in-camera removal, so you will deal with red eyes. Also, the flash doesn’t pop up and fire automatically, even in Auto mode.

Another thing you should know is that maximum recording times vary, depending on the resolution and amount of available memory space. For the quality of image, I noticed a little red tint, low contrast and noise as about the low side of average things that can be corrected with photo editing programs.
A bonus for Fuji FinePix E550 is the possibility to attach optional accessories like filters with an adaptive ring.

FujifilmFinepixS6000fdFujifilm Finepix S6000fd is an ultra zoom camera (10.7x optical zoom) with a 6.3 Megapixel SuperCCD sensor that produces less noise than regular CCDs.
Also, the camera actively seeks out faces and makes sure that they are in focus and properly exposed (face detection function). The S6000 includes a lens cap and a lens hood, but the only thing this camera misses is optical image stabilization.
The manual zoom and focus rings represent another bonus in favour for this camera. The robust design and the threaded lens for 58 mm filters and accessories will give even more flexibility of use.
As you can see below, this digital camera is not just flexible but also has a plenty of useful shooting modes. White balance (Auto, custom, sunlight, shade, daylight fluorescent, warm white fluorescent, cool white fluorescent, incandescent) works fine and then you have two macro modes on this camera: in the regular macro mode the minimum distance to the subject is 10 cm at wide-angle and 90 cm at telephoto; super macro mode can focus 1 cm away from your subject.
