Nikon Coolpix P5000Beginning from March 2007, Nikon is pleased to introduce the COOLPIX P5000 to the Nikon COOLPIX Performance Series of digital cameras on the market. The new COOLPIX P5000 offers advanced functions, ease of operation, and high image quality that is sure to satisfy photo and camera enthusiasts.
The P5000 incorporates a new advanced image processing engine, which optimizes low light performance and color reproduction, and Nikon’s optical VR image stabilization, which compensates for camera shake.

Another advantage of the optical VR image stabilization is that it helps achieve smoother action in the movie shooting modes of the P5000 and when using the optional TC-3ED Tele converter with 378mm of telephoto performance.
The COOLPIX P5000 features a new advanced image processing engine with enhanced noise reduction and an improved signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio that preserves image quality even when shooting at high ISO settings. The P5000 extends the light sensitivity range to ISO 3200, which makes it possible to capture fast moving subjects with outstanding clarity, even in lower light conditions.

Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically sets the optimal ISO for steady results and will allow users to select and save the best image from up to ten sequential shots.
The P5000 also comes with Nikon’s PictureProject software. Powerful yet user-friendly software makes transferring, organizing, editing and sharing photos easy.

nikon coolpix s500Not only does it provide a solid metallic feel and reassuringly firm grip, but the chic contours and classic camera appeal of the most compact digital camera among competing models also makes Nikon Coolpix S500 a desirable pocket point-and-shoot compact camera for travellers. Power-on speed is amazing: only 0.6 seconds! And the shutter speed also: 0.005 seconds.
The COOLPIX S500 features proven lens shift VR (Vibration Reduction) technology which gives better quality to pictures normally blurred due to camera shake (unsteady hands).

One-touch portrait button makes it easier than ever to take great-looking photographs by offering direct access to a selection of three innovative functions that provide the ability to actually improve the quality of images within the camera. Face-priority automatically finds, then focuses on people’s faces for crisp, clear results time after time.

In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically compensates to help eradicate traces of the annoying red-eye effect that can sometimes be encountered during flash photography. Completing the set is D-Lighting, which can be applied to improve underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight.

nikon D40 dslrIn a few words, Nikon D40 is the lightest, most compact Nikon digital SLR ever, featuring intuitive controls and an ergonomically designed operation that even first-time SLR users can enjoy. Advanced 3-area AF system and the refined algorithms inherited from the advanced Nikon digital SLR cameras deliver fast, efficient and precise autofocus, while an AF-assist illuminator helps ensure top performance in dark situations.

High-precision digital image processing algorithms produce natural-looking images with faithful color and tone reproduction. 8 shooting mode are available: Auto, Auto (Flash Off), Portrait, Landscape, Child, Sports, Close Up, and Night Portrait, plus the facility to optimize white balance, sharpening, tone, color, saturation and hue to match the scene. More than that, Creative in-camera effects and editing functions consolidated under the new Retouch menu, including D-Lighting, Red-eye correction, Trim, Monochrome settings (Black-and-white, Sepia, Cyanotype), Filter Effects (Skylight, Warm filter, Color balance), Small Picture and Image Overlay.

Nikon D40 comes with newer AF-S (autofocus system) where the focusing motor is built into the lens, so those who still want to use legacy lenses, many of which are still in the Nikon line-up, should opt for the D50, D70, or D80, but the more modern AF-S lenses, that are currently 21 in number, are a better choice. The D40 comes packaged with the new 3X zoom 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens.

Nikon Coolpix 8800 ReviewNikon Coolpix 8800 is the first compact digital camera from Nikon with Image Stabilization. Similar to Konica Minolta and Panasonic models, this Nikon eliminates the effects of hands shake thru vibration reduction. Compared to Nikon Coolpix 8700 (8x optical zoom), Coolpix 8800 has 10x optical zoom, with focal range of 8.9 – 89 mm (35-350 mm equivalent). The autofocus has a weak point: at the clarity adjustment it’s not fast enough. In exchange for that, Nikon Coolpix 8800 can focus in macro mode from only 3 cm away. This thing offers at 8 megapixels, a very high resolution and details. With robust metallic body and easy to use buttons (and 21 successive modes in the menu) it’s an impressive camera.

The Coolpix displays a customizable “My Menu” that is shown before the full menu. You can put whatever you want in this menu. One interesting thing is the possibility to select D-Lighting mode in rendering phase, which will correct the underexposed and overexposed pictures.

The pop-up flash has an impressive working range of 0.5 – 6.0 m at wide-angle and 1.0 – 3.0 m at telephoto. The AF-assist lamp features on an external flash will not operate, regardless of the flash you’re using. Among Auto, Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual, the Scene mode includes: portrait, party/indoor, night portrait, beach/snow, landscape, sunset, night landscape, museum, fireworks, close-up, copy, backlight, panorama assist, sports, and dusk/dawn. Nikon Coolpix 8800 also comes with the Noise Reduction option for long exposures (1/4 sec or slower). Redeye is not a problem for the pop-up flash Nikon camera. Overall, a very flexible camera, allowing a lot of possibilities and very good picture quality.

Nikon D70Nikon’s D70 (improvement of D100) was Digital SLR camera of the year in 2004. Solid ergonomic body (600g without battery) and easy to use menu (even a help button). Aperture priority, shutter priority and full manual modes offer the possibility to simultaneously think about composition, depth of field, motion blur, focus, and exposure compensation.
Depth of Field preview button aids composition accuracy. However, other easy modes are available: Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Close Up, Sports, Night Landscape and Night Portrait. Vivid and normal colour saturation, degree of sharpening, the use of extra noise reduction algorithms are a few effects you can add to the shoots. Nothing to say against the performance of white balance for this camera. Even if the auto-focus is very rapid and efficient, D70 supports manual focus. Processing of the image is available in both JPEG and RAW mode. Some little complains about the viewfinder being too small.
But as for the bad parts of this camera, The Blinking Green Light Of Death is a common cause of failure for many early Nikon D70 digital SLR cameras. Symptoms of failure are a constant blinking green Compact Flash card access light and the camera does not perform any operation. The camera basically dies and does not perform any operation. But don’t panic: Nikon seems to fix this problem even for out-of-warranty cameras without any charge.
