The Sony Cybershot DSC-T200 has a 3.5 inch touch sensitive LCD (0.5 more than DSC-T70), a feature that not many cameras have yet. This is the reason why you can’t notice any buttons on the back. Slim and lightweight as Sony T-series was before, DSC-T200 with the touch screen makes shooting even more comfortable (it’s a huge screen by the way: 3.5 inch) for anyone willing to get rapid photos in vacations by caring a camera in a pocket (you can also choose between Red, Black and Silver).
Here’s a list of the many features this camera posses: 8 megapixels, 5x optical zoom, face detection system, HD output, Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and High Sensitivity, Wide Zoom Display (automatically expands standard 4:3 images to 16:9). Unlike some competitive systems, Sony Face Detection makes skin tones look more natural and reduces red-eye with pre-strobe flash. Also, there’s a new Smile Shutter Mode that helps you capture more smiles by shooting automatically when your subject laughs, smiles, even grins after you focused.
This fashionable camera may be expensive, and, besides point-and-shoot, it also has a Program mode that makes it possible to perform a few adjustments. The only 4 buttons of the camera are used for turning the camera on and off, zooming, image review and taking the picture. The images are kind of soft and the colors very vibrant. Almost forgot: the macro mode allows takeing picture as close as 1cm – this is very good while other cameras have a limit of 3-5cm.

What I like most about Samsung Digimax A503 is the stylish compact, lightweight and still solid design (also unique and simple), in a mixture of silver and dark gray. The dial located around the lens enables you to easily choose between zoom and macro shots, and frequently used functions, resulting into a user-friendly, easy to use environment.
You can also use the E button to access special effect functions such as color effect, highlight, composite shot and photo frame, a fact that gives a lot of fun to photographing with this camera. With 6 different color effects and individual adjustment of R-G-B, you can produce delicate image expressions, and, the highlight function enables you to blur the surroundings of the subject emphasized. This effect can highlight a rectangular shape, one person or two persons as desired.
Also, the composite shot function allows you to take a picture progressively, like a panorama.
While recording, Samsung’s technology enables you to pause during some scenes and resume recording of the movie later.

Benq DC C530 is not one of the most stylish digital cameras developed by BenQ, but you can choose to purchase the “toy” in Black, Blue, Red, or White skin color. It’s very, very lightweight. Compared to the new cameras on the market, this 5 megapixel camera can record movies only at 320 x 240. The LCD screen is also not as big as new ones, but I don’t consider that a problem. It features High ISO Mode for low light conditions and anti shake function, while the picture quality is acceptable. This could be a nice joyful gift for talented kids.

Benq DC C500 comes with a standard one year warranty battery included that has a long life, but it’s difficult to find replacement battery. It takes about 1.5 seconds to power on for shooting. Normally, this compact digital camera takes photos at 5 megapixels with the possibility to obtain even 7 megapixel images. But, it only has a 4x digital zoom and no optical one, and, the 7MP pictures have a bad quality – are filled up with noise. By shooting against the light, you’ll get flare in your image and purple fringing. The C500 is a stylish lightweight pocket camera with reasonable image quality, but not many features and possibilities, good to consider a nice gift for kids.

The Kodak Z712 IS Digital Camera combines an impressive 12X optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization and 7.1 megapixels, plus face detection and manual controls – all useful features. It also has an electronic viewfinder – i would ask Kodak manufacturers why not optic? The body tends to look like a slr but the hand grip is not of rubber and it is smaller and lighter. Almost all the controls are on the right-hand side of the camera. As for the image quality, Kodak cameras, and this one is no exception, tend to have noticeable fringing and artifacts, plus some visible noise and softness; colors are slightly oversaturated. A good thing, however, is that shoot to shoot time is fast even with flash on. I can conclude that this camera has all the features anyone could wish for, and, you have 2 choices: either you want a cheap camera with all the features – this is the one (and I suggest using it at lower ISO only), or you have some more money and buy a camera with better image quality at higher ISO.

Using this camera is similar to using a film camera: the zoom and aperture rings on the available Leica lenses plus the mode dial and manual focus. Also, since there are no scene modes, i highly recommend that you only buy this camera if you are more than a newby hobbyist (advanced amateur to professional photographer).
An interesting fact is that Panasonic L1 a similar design to Olympus EVOLT E-330 but will offer MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) in addition to Olympus’ dust reduction feature. This results in a compatibility with the extensive line of Olympus’ quality Zuiko Digital Specific Lenses. Other features include Dust Reduction System, fast response time (under 1 sec. shutter lag when using viewfinder), the ability to save images in RAW format. There is a special option (on/off): if the AF does not lock, when you press the shutter button, the camera will not take the picture.
Since the white balance in auto mode might be tricky in indoor condition, lucky the camera has a manual mode that works fine. The Live View LCD displays the effect of white balance selection as well as exposure compensation applied or other image settings. The images are far from being noisy even at high ISO but becomes more prominent at slow shutter speeds. There is slight purple fringing.

Compared to NV10, the new Digimax NV11 from Samsung has 5x optical zoom instead of 3x, a larger LCD, and 20% more battery life (up to 220 shots). The body design is not the most impressive on the market these days, but I’ll suppose this is the last thing that matters on a solid 10MP compact with full manual controls. At the back you’ll find 13 buttons – a lot of them – used by the Smart Touch system (including Face Detection - up to an impressive number of 8 faces – which by default is off). Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) is available as a shooting mode and it is not a true optical image stabilizer – this is a minus for Samsung cameras. Shutter lag, shot to shot and lock focus are fast, but in low light, focusing performance lacks a bit. But now some good things about this camera: a super macro mode that reduces the distance to just 1 cm is available, a manual focus and custom white balance, which means that overall you can get creative using the NV11. The image is quite soft (a strong noise reduction process is applied), the colors are close to the real ones (still you may want more vibrant ones), purple fringing is no problem at all, also no vignetting. Red-eye reduction does it’s job well due to the in-camera software. A bonus tip for those searching for a camera that performs well in movie mode: NV11 allows zooming during filming.
Optional accessories: wireless remote control known as the SRC-A3 up to 15 feet away; SCP-A19 leather camera case.

The powerfull Samsung Digimax S1000 stands up because of the 10MP combined with 30fps movie rate (the highest values available for a compact digital camera under 300 dollars). An interesting thing about the camera is that not just images, but also movies can be edited on the camera without the need of a computer. However, despite the hight megapixels, the S1000 does not have many manual controls and has no image stabilization. Instead, it comes with plenty of on-board effect – as for example a subject-highlighting mode that soft-focuses the background; photo frames. All this means that the target of Samsung S1000 is someone who wants to take vacation (the use of AA batteries and SD memory card supports this theory also) snapshots on high resolution in order to make huge prints. This affordable 10MP digital camera takes sharp picture at low ISO with realistic colors, no artifacts or noise. The design of the camera is not very fancy, the body is made most of plastic not metal, but it’s quite strong. Compared to other cameras, the batteries don’t last too much. Overall it’s a good, but not brilliant camera, that I might say it’s the most compact 10MP digicam.

The design of this camera is very different than the rest of the cameras in it’s range. If you thought that a SLR-like ultra zoom digicam can not look fancy and stylish, you are wrong. The round forms of the design do not interfere with the camera usability and hand grip. The tripod mount is positioned well in the gravity center of the camera, but the mount is made of plastic – not very solid. It starts up in around two seconds and focus speed is about 0.2 seconds long. Konica Minolta’s Z6 features a very good anti-shake system that will help you to zoom at maximum power of 12x without a tripod and take good shots in low light also. Because of the focal length of the lens, the images may result in having barrel distortion at wide angle, and at the telephoto end it has softness and chromatic aberration, but noise control is excellent. Colors are natural, in my opinion a bit washed out. The super macro mode tells this lens to focus as close as 1cm, creating stunning images of the details of objects. Z6 has full manual exposure controls plus the possibility to attach an external flash, 5 different scene modes, custom white balance, and posses a viewfinder in case you run on low battery (however, it’s electronic not optical). Unlike other ultra-zooms from Konica Minolta, it lacks the RAW shooting format.
