The world of digital cameras and the one of cell phones are changing rapidly. Now, it’s a great deal to have a 5MP camera with 3x zoom on a cell phone! The Samsung G800, the worldâ€™s first 5 megapixel camera phone with 3x optical zoom lens, looks like a streamlined digital camera on one side and a fashionable mobile phone on the other side. And gues what: Features such as face detection, and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), which are very up-to-date features even in todayâ€™s digital cameras, are also equipped in the new G800! (soon i’m going to have a laptop in a pants pockets)
Elegantly equipped with multimedia features, the G800 still has a sophisticated slim design for the two handed grip when taking pictures. The large 2.4â€ QVGA LCD with a wide display allows users to view the screen like a digital camera. The 3x optical zoom is an inner zoom, where the lens does not extend outside the body of the phone, ensuring a slimmer design.

Boasting 3x optical zoom and Xenon flash to enable close-ups and exceptional photo detail, the G800 also comes with other most up-to-date digital camera features such as panorama shots, multi shots and macro shots.
Not only just taking pictures, the G800 also provides a very easy tool for sharing images and videos.
Plus, the Samsung G800 offers professional video editing functions so that people can easily cut, paste, and edit their own films directly on the camera-phone. A mobile blogging (so trendy these days) feature helps users to upload their favorite User Created Contents (UCC) site very easily. Supporting High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), the photos or videos can be sent to others very quickly.

The operations are done via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) which is intuitive and simple to use so that the user experiences the same environment as a digital camera when using the camera function on the phone. An On Screen Display (OSD) shows various camera indicators in a horizontal preview mode.

Now, I’m pleased with what I heared about it, but I have one big question: how long will the battery life be for such a complex (all-in-one) device? I’m looking foreward for findin out more as soon as the Samsung G800 will be available in European countries starting from November 2007.

What I like most about Samsung Digimax A503 is the stylish compact, lightweight and still solid design (also unique and simple), in a mixture of silver and dark gray. The dial located around the lens enables you to easily choose between zoom and macro shots, and frequently used functions, resulting into a user-friendly, easy to use environment.

You can also use the E button to access special effect functions such as color effect, highlight, composite shot and photo frame, a fact that gives a lot of fun to photographing with this camera. With 6 different color effects and individual adjustment of R-G-B, you can produce delicate image expressions, and, the highlight function enables you to blur the surroundings of the subject emphasized. This effect can highlight a rectangular shape, one person or two persons as desired.

Also, the composite shot function allows you to take a picture progressively, like a panorama.
While recording, Samsung’s technology enables you to pause during some scenes and resume recording of the movie later.

Samsung Digimax NV11 Digital Camera Review

Compared to NV10, the new Digimax NV11 from Samsung has 5x optical zoom instead of 3x, a larger LCD, and 20% more battery life (up to 220 shots). The body design is not the most impressive on the market these days, but I’ll suppose this is the last thing that matters on a solid 10MP compact with full manual controls. At the back you’ll find 13 buttons – a lot of them – used by the Smart Touch system (including Face Detection - up to an impressive number of 8 faces – which by default is off). Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) is available as a shooting mode and it is not a true optical image stabilizer – this is a minus for Samsung cameras. Shutter lag, shot to shot and lock focus are fast, but in low light, focusing performance lacks a bit. But now some good things about this camera: a super macro mode that reduces the distance to just 1 cm is available, a manual focus and custom white balance, which means that overall you can get creative using the NV11. The image is quite soft (a strong noise reduction process is applied), the colors are close to the real ones (still you may want more vibrant ones), purple fringing is no problem at all, also no vignetting. Red-eye reduction does it’s job well due to the in-camera software. A bonus tip for those searching for a camera that performs well in movie mode: NV11 allows zooming during filming.

Samsung Digimax S1000 Digital Camera Review

The powerfull Samsung Digimax S1000 stands up because of the 10MP combined with 30fps movie rate (the highest values available for a compact digital camera under 300 dollars). An interesting thing about the camera is that not just images, but also movies can be edited on the camera without the need of a computer. However, despite the hight megapixels, the S1000 does not have many manual controls and has no image stabilization. Instead, it comes with plenty of on-board effect – as for example a subject-highlighting mode that soft-focuses the background; photo frames. All this means that the target of Samsung S1000 is someone who wants to take vacation (the use of AA batteries and SD memory card supports this theory also) snapshots on high resolution in order to make huge prints. This affordable 10MP digital camera takes sharp picture at low ISO with realistic colors, no artifacts or noise. The design of the camera is not very fancy, the body is made most of plastic not metal, but it’s quite strong. Compared to other cameras, the batteries don’t last too much. Overall it’s a good, but not brilliant camera, that I might say it’s the most compact 10MP digicam.

Samsung Digimax A403 Digital Camera Review

This Samsung camera only has 4 megapixels and the upper model, A503, adds 1 more megapixel. Both are available in 2 colors: silver and black, or, better said, in a combination of the colors in different proportions: a classic but stylish design with a stable grip. Even if it has 4MP, it comes with 5x optical zoom which is more than the standard 3x zoom and a very useful feature. The fact that it uses AA batteries and SD memory cards adds to the usability of the camera in any place and any situation – these accessories are cheaper and easy to find even in supermarkets. The image quality provided by the lenses Samsung uses is more than satisfying, so I highly recommend buying this camera lightweight camera for your kids trips.

Samsung Digimax S1050 Digital Camera Review

Samsung Digimax S1050 is a compact camera with ergonomic grip, lightweight but not very slim, available in 2 colors: silver and black.
The features that make this camera be on top of the sales are the high megapixels, high optical zoom (5x instead of the usual 3x), advanced shake reduction (ASR) as image stabilization technology and movie stabilizer function, face recognition, high ISO 1600, super macro mode (1 cm close), the presence of manual features and the extra large LCD (3 inch).
An interesting feature, sometimes quite useful, is the Wise Shot: when activate, it takes 2 shots â€“ one with flash on one with flash off, so that later on you can choose the best one. The Movie Mode is pretty advanced; allowing an impressive flexibility considering itâ€™s just a photo camera. About the Effect button and what it does, it might look funny at the beginning, but after that, itâ€™s useless.
The use of AA batteries and SD memory card has the advantage of an easy replacement in a short time anywhere. The image quality is above medium, concluding that S1050 itâ€™s worth the price.

Samsung Digimax S1030 Digital Camera Review

This is a camera with user-friendly ergonomic body design, considering an ergonomic grip. First of all, I like that Samsung thought putting a Manual Mode on a compact camera (but where are Shutter and Aperture Priority?). However, at this high resolution I would have expected at least face detection if not also image stabilization. Good that they put 45MB internal memory at this high resolution camera.
For those seeking a good camera with high megapixel resolution, the Digimax 1030 might be an option. However, if you can spear some more money, I recommend the Digimax 1050 because of the following improvements: face detection included, macro mode up to 1 cm close, longer shutter speed, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority Modes included, even larger LCD and, the most important, 5x optical zoom instead of 3x.
Otherwise, the performance of these two cameras is quite similar, a good one. The Movie Mode is impressively for a camera meant to take photos. Another thing worth mentioning is the easy of use: the control dial on the top has all the Shooting Modes plus the most used Scene Modes; the Effect button is easy to access and the Direct Print also.

Samsung Digimax S800 comes in an ergonomic body design (black and silver) for steady shooting. The Samsung Digimax S800 is the point-and-shoot camera that has tons of controls for its price range, but confusing menus and poor image quality (slightly soft, excessive noise and too warm colors with auto white balance indoor shooting) outweigh these advantages.
Also, it kinda shocked me that it has no aperture- or shutter-priority mode and the exposure adjustments in 1/2-stop instead of 1/3-stop increments. Red-eye is also a problem.
