Nikon Coolpix L5 Digital Camera Review

The design of Coolpix L5 is different than the one of L4 or L6 and I must admit that I personally don’t like it. Its the 5x optical zoom that first catches my attention (not 3x like most of the cameras in this range). Then, the optical vibration reduction (image stabilization) brings another plus to the evaluation. Nikon’s Best Shot Selector (BSS) will select for keeping the sharpest picture out of 10 shots. The worst about this camera is the impossibility of modifying the ISO setting (exposure compensation, white balance and metering can be adjusted). Like most of the shapshooting compact digital cameras, it has plenty of scene modes but no manual or shutter/aperture priority. For example, one-touch portrait mode uses face-priority autofocus and sets a wide aperture to blur the background and make your subject stand out. With flash turned on, it takes 4 seconds between shots, which is … Read more

Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 Digital Camera Review

The DSC-W80 has a newer interface and look compared to other W series cameras from Sony (it comes in attractive colors of the sleek metal body as well). Also, W80 uses Sony’s new Bionz image processor, which is much faster. The photos have sharp details and accurate colors, noticeable noise only from ISO 800 and above. Important features that improve your shots are: optical image stabilization, face-detecting auto focus and auto exposure (there is also ISO 3200 maximum sensitivity but in my opinion not very useful). High-definition slide shows with MP3 music support and in-camera image retouching worth mentions especially for those of you who don’t want to spend too much time with image adjustments at the PC. It can be used with the new Sony CSS-HD1 high-definition Cyber-shot Station, which comes with the component cable (also works as a charger for the camera); and the DSC-W80HDPR kit, which bundles … Read more

Canon PowerShot SD 750 or Ixus 75 Digital Camera Review

This Canon digital camera (slimmest optical zoom camera from Canon) offers superb response times and high-quality image rendering through Canons DIGIC III image processor. Some interesting features include: Red-Eye Correction in playback, Face Detection AF/AE/FE and Noise Reduction Technology, ISO 1600 and Auto ISO Shift, 17 Shooting modes plus My Colors photo effects. The new aesthetics (silver and silver with black accents, elegant, cutting-edge design and large LCD) from Canon first gives me a good impression, but I miss the viewfinder (it was present at Ixus 70 (SD 1000). Also it lacks the image stabilization of the SD800 IS. A new Time Lapse Movie function allows a scene of two hours duration to be condensed to a fluid eight minute or four minute movie file, obtaining very stunning effects. A new Auto ISO Shift function prevents blur by giving users the option to boost the ISO setting – and consequently … Read more
